Can Canada get through pool play without Dala, Hearn, Hiryama and Mack?

On the face of it this looked like a great opportunity for Canada. They drew New Zealand and England in their pool but with England not at full strength they would have fancied their chances of a result against them or maybe upsetting the Kiwis and getting through to the Cup Quarter finals.

Nathan Hiryama, Canada

Without the services of Phil Mack, Nathan Hiryama and Ciaran Hearn, it’s hard to see Canada’s backline being at their best this weekend in Wellington

But with so much experience and ability out of action it’s hard to see this happening.

Justin Douglas and Mike Scholz are also out.

Canada still have their main strike weapon in Sean Duke and big John Moonlight is a wonderful forward capable of scoring tries and big defence. Conor Trainor is a great support runner who finishes a lot of moves and Harry Jones is more than capable. And it also looks like Liam Underwood will get his chance to bring his x-factor to Wellington.

But will that be enough?

Canada’s match up with England will be crucial to their chances. It kicks off at 5:26 NZ Time.
