Aiono, Tupou and Iosefo out with injury

I was thinking that this year’s Wellington 7s might just see the return to form of Samoa but with injuries to three of their biggest stars they will be doing well to get through to the Cup Quarter finals with Argentina and Kenya in their pool.

Powerful forward Afa Aiono, playmaker Alatasi Tupou and speed merchant Tom Iosefo are all injured.

That said the team has a very familiar look to Kiwis with Greg Foe back in the fold after making his international debut in the last World Series and showing great form for Wellington domestically.

Auckland’s Tain Lam comes in after a prominent showing at provincial level and North Harbour’s Fomai Ah Ki brings the speed.

Jono Malo, Waikato and Samoa

Following Tom Nanae-Willians on the repatriation pathway is Waikato’s Jono Malo who last played for New Zealand at the 2012 USA 7s in Las Vegas. Malo has been prominent in the Waikato at both 7s and 15s in age group and development level so this is an excellent career move for him with the 15s World Cup and Olympics on the horizon.
