Fijian coach Ben Ryan says that Ed Jenkins’ contribution to Australia’s play is huge. He places him alongside New Zealand captain DJ Forbes in terms of the contribution he makes to the team.
Veteran of 34 World Series tournaments, the Australian captain does the kinds of things that need doing if teams are to win games. Sometimes that includes slowing things down at the ruck and occasionally flaunting the breakdown laws.
But that’s what the best forwards do – they get the job done and give away the minimum of penalties along the way.
On top of his work up front Jenkins has the pace to attack out wide and he has a winger’s nous for where to be to finish off attacks with 75 tries to his name in World Series play.
He may just be the ultimate 7s player.
Jenkins will once again have the hard-working Jessie Parahi alongside him in the forwards and the exciting duo of Pama Fou and Shannon Walker out wide. With Con Foley and Cameron Clark in the mix, this will be a formidable Australian side that we will see in Wellington this weekend.
