New Zealand veteran Sevens star Zar Lawrence has returned to Northland for the 2011 rugby season. His first action for his new province will be at the Bay of Plenty Provincial Sevens where he won with Bay of Plenty last year.
Lawrence has been in the wilderness somewhat after being left out of the gold medal winning Commonwealh Games team and the New Zealand team that played in Dubai and South African Sevens legs of the IRB World Series.
He did lead the Emerging New Zealand team that came in second at the Gold Coast Sevens.
Originally from Kaitaia, Zar Lawrence initially made his mark for North Harbour before moving to Bay of Plenty.
He has scored 100 tries on the IRB Sevens circuit for New Zealand and he remains in 16th place in the all time try scorers’ table.
At 28 years old, it is hard to believe that Lawrence is washed up so let’s hope a change of scenery will revive his playing fortunes.
